What are the next steps?

The NEAC, as an independent advisory body, has put forward a mix of high level and detailed recommended policy measures.

In line with the NEAC's suggestion, the Government has made PEMANDU the central agency tasked with coordinating the further design of policy measures, monitoring their implementation, and assessing their effectiveness for the purpose of suggesting any necessary remedial measures.

Between January and April 2011, PEMANDU worked with the NEAC on the implementation details, sequencing and the time line of the policy measures underlying the eights SRIs. Many of these policy measures will also be integrated into the ongoing policy initiatives encompassed by the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and NKEAs. The Government has pledged to implement progressively the policies envisaged in the NEM. This will be a long haul process involving all stakeholders.

The NEAC has recommended that there be an Independent Evaluation Board (IEB), whose main task will be to undertake every two years an in-depth strategic review of the impact and relevance of the policy measures underlying the SRIs and driving the NKEAs.
