What is the ETP?

Economic Transformation Programme (ETP)

The Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) is a comprehensive effort that will transform Malaysia into a high-income nation by 2020.

Successfully implemented, the ETP will more than double Malaysia's gross national income (GNI) per capita to over USD15,000 or RM48,000 in 2020, making us a high income economy.

The ETP involves two integral components represented by the eight Strategic Reform Initiatives (SRIs) and the 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs). The SRIs are foundational policy measures and seek to remove structural barriers to growth and address chronic weaknesses in the economy. Only when these shortcomings are addressed will Malaysia be able to successfully ride on the NKEAs launched by the Government at the end of October 2010, to achieve the ultimate objectives of high income, inclusiveness and sustainability.
